We are founding a political party
We are looking for free people to found a new party of citizens. We do not want to create yet another party clique, but a new organisation that serves as a tool of civil society. We believe the citizen is not merely a voter — they are the owner, master and principal of the political rights they entrust to their representatives. Trust is not a free loan — it is a tool for participation and oversight.

What woke us
Once, the citizen believed that by voting they were taking part. Then they realised that after the elections power closes off at the top.
When promises are broken, there is no lever for correction.
That is why we do not just need a new leader. We need a new contract — a party in which the citizen chooses, oversees and, when necessary, removes their representatives. Not once every four years. But continuously.
This is the real participation of citizens as owners, not as obedient election machines.
In brief
Our answer is not a new leader, but a system of democratic procedures and rules of checks and balances. Citizens’ Square offers exactly this — not yet another ideology, but a new model of political participation: a union built not around a charismatic leader, but around transparent and fair rules in which every community recognises its own voice and its own place. The new party is created to work as a tool of citizens, not as an intermediary between public resources and private interest. This is not a replacement for representative democracy — it is an upgrade to it. The organisation’s core task is to create a complete platform for holding primary elections, open to the participation of representatives of all organisations that share our values as citizens.
Members propose, debate and decide — through assemblies, petitions and referendums, not only through representatives.

A complete system of checks and balances. Clearly separated roles and mandates, counterweights, and protection of citizens’ rights as the sovereign.
Political candidates are selected through elections open to all citizens who have expressed support for a democratic, rule-of-law and fair Bulgaria within Europe — with direct competition and ranking according to citizens’ trust, not according to dependencies.
The process
The process starts online and ends with a signature on paper. No one is bound until they decide to sign themselves.

You meet the team that started the initiative. We explain the ideas, goals and tasks and answer your questions before you decide.
You receive a personal invitation, print it out and fill in the participation registration. Here you also enter the data required by law.
You return the signed consent and become a co-founder of the party at the founding assembly.

Who we are
We are an association of citizens. Over the years we have taken part in and supported various civic initiatives such as “Civic Convention”, “Justice for Everyone”, “BOEC” and “Liberation”. We believe in the power and the will of citizens to govern the future of our society themselves.
Citizens’ Square brings together citizens who took an active part in the protests and the efforts for the rule of law and freedom. In 2020 we began with the effort to give a voice to more citizens during the protests against Borisov and his third term; we continued with “Civic Panorama” against the lack of media freedom; and then we stood against the actions of the caretaker cabinet led by Galab Donev, organising two months of regular protests.
We continued with active efforts during the coalition (“sglobka”) that destroyed the trust of much of the public in a pro-European reform agenda, and then against the restoration of oligarchic rule on the #whom model. All of this led us to the conviction that a new stage of civic participation is needed — to move the pressure of citizens from the street and social networks into the parties themselves.

A software entrepreneur from Sofia. He built and sold a telecom operator backed by Silicon Valley investment, then worked in fintech, e-authentication and payment systems. He led the team for 100% machine voting in 2021. A long-time participant in civic initiatives; pro-European, liberal and devoted to the rule of law.

A historian and lecturer, one of the leading researchers of modern and contemporary Bulgarian history. He graduated from Sofia University, specialised in Amsterdam and Budapest, and lectured at universities around the world. A long-time contributor to Radio Free Europe and the author of books on memory and politics.

A software architect with over 25 years of experience in Bulgarian and international companies. Deep knowledge of fintech and crypto systems. A father of three from Targovishte. An active citizen and participant in the initiatives for the rule of law and judicial reform.
The Citizens’ Square movement is the initiator of the project for a party with a new model of political participation — a model in which citizens not only choose, but exercise mutual oversight over their representatives and protection of the common interest. Not a union around a leader or an ideology, but around transparent and fair rules in which every community has a voice and weight.
